Trios for Violin, Cello, and Piano
For our Spring concert this year, Concerts for Craswall have great pleasure in welcoming the talented Herefordshire born cellist Hattie Butterworth together with her colleagues’ violinist Sophie Hinson and pianist Songeun Choi – collectively known as The Odora Trio.
The Odora Trio (violin, cello and piano) was formed in 2016 by three young musicians from London’s Royal Academy and Royal College of Music, who had met at Chetham’s School of Music several years earlier.
The Trio have given lunchtime recitals at both the Academy and College, and most recently, came commended in the coveted Isaacs and Pirani piano trio competition.
SCHUBERT Trio in B-flat, D898
RAVEL Sonata for Violin & Cello
RACHMANINOV Trio élégiaque No. 1
DEBUSSY Trio in G major
Their concert programme offers an exciting evening’s entertainment with two works by mature composers – Schubert’s Trio in B-flat, a large-scale but light-hearted late work, and a violin and cello Duo by Ravel written in 1922 and dedicated to Debussy, who had died in 1918.
The two other pieces are student works – Rachmaninov’s “Trio élégiaque” No. 1 written while he was studying at the Moscow Conservatoire and influenced by Tchaikovsky (hence its allusions to his first piano concerto) and Debussy’s Trio in G major, written when he was only 18.
