Concert duration is approximateEvent Navigation
May 2017 marks the 350th anniversary of the death of Johann Jacob Froberger, a German composer, organist, and harpsichordist whose keyboard works are widely acknowledged to be among the richest of the early Baroque era and whose music strongly influenced composers that followed. He was the first German harpsichord composer of real significance and his music represents a fusion of French, Italian, and other styles with the more formal German style. He is credited with having played a major part in the development of the Baroque suite.
The internationally-acclaimed harpsichordist and musicologist David Ponsford will not only play a marvellous programme of works celebrating ‘Froberger and his Legacy’, to include works by Froberger, Frescobaldi, Couperin, Buxtehude and JS Bach, but will expertly introduce the pieces and give historical context.
‘A kaleidoscope of musical sound which combines virtuoso brilliance with scholarship.’ Musical Opinion
