Handel, Alexander’s Feast
Handel’s Alexander’s Feast, loosely based on a text by Dryden, is set in the court of Alexander the Great in the captured city of Persepolis. At a great feast, the musician Timotheus performs for his master, and Handel uses the scenario simply as an excuse to write exquisite music arousing varied emotions from love to revenge. The work was highly popular after its premiere in 1736, and we are sure that 280 years later you will be equally captivated.
