Since its formation in 2000 the group has performed the complete piano quartets of Brahms, Dvorák, Fauré and Mozart. It also takes a keen interest in performing gems that are not so often heard in the concert hall by the likes of Frank Bridge, Arthur Bliss and Richard Strauss. Recent concerts have been at the Buxton and the Paxton Festivals and future engagements include the Orpheus & Bacchus Festival in Bordeaux, the Oxford Chamber Music Society and Sevenoaks Music Club amongst others |
An ex-sprinter and half the size of her double bass, Chi-chi Nwanoku has gained a reputation as one of the finest exponents of her instrument today. She is a founder member of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment where she held the position of Principal double bass for 30 years. She is Professor of Double Bass Historical Studies at the Royal Academy of Music, where she was made a Fellow in 1998. In 2015 she established the Chineke! Foundation to form Europe’s first professional all-black orchestra. |
